Official ISACA Prerequisites
To earn the official CISA designation, ISACA requires:
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in IS auditing, control, assurance, or security.
- Up to 3 years of substitutions allowed:
- 1 year of IS experience OR 1 year of non-IS auditing = 1 year waiver.
- A 2-year or 4-year degree = up to 2 years waiver (max 3 years).
- Experience must be within 10 years before or 5 years after passing the exam.
Note: You may take the course and exam before completing experience requirements. The designation is awarded once requirements are met.

ISACA requires 5 years of relevant experience for certification. You can attend training and even write the exam beforehand; certain waivers may apply.
How is the exam structured?
Approximately 150 multiple-choice questions across 5 domains. Exam duration is 4 hours.
